El Berro is situated in the pine-clad mountains of Sierra Espuña, Murcia, South East Spain. Quiet and picturesque with great views, the house is situated within walking distance of El Berro, a typical Spanish village. Murcia generally enjoys 320 days of sunshine every year.
Sierra Espuña is Murcia´s largest forest and contains some spectacular scenery. Making up the highest part of the mountain range are: the Morron de Espuña (1583m), Pedro Lopez (1569m) and the Morron Chico (1444m). The cliff walls of the Morron de Espuña and those of the Valle de Leyva are particularly popular with climbers, the latter considered to be one of the best climbing areas in the whole of Spain on account of their profile and quality of rock. The “Paredes” stretch across 3 kilometres and have a vertical drop of 150 metres.
High in the Sierra are the “Pozos de Nieve”. These are snow wells that were built in the 16th century and used to store snow through the winter months. In spring, after compression, the ice blocks were transported to the local cities - by donkey! Some of the wells are ruins but others have been renovated showing the traditional style. A beautiful area with incredible views and great walks.
